This is my recent and current work. The objective with these paintings is to create an implied narrative coupling realistic imagery with non-representational mark-making.
I am interested in exploring how the human brain treats memories. Why do we remember some things and not others? With this body of work, some things are left unresolved, because our memories are not perfect. We only remember the things that are most important to us, while other details are left out.
Like the surrealists, I am also interested in exploring what occurs in dreams. I prefer, however, to explore the dreams rooted in reality, except for minor quirks here and there. Have you ever had a dream that was just weird enough for you to know it was a dream, but just real enough for you to question it? Or have you ever had something happen to you in reality that was too strange to be real, and seemed like a dream? Those are the types of situations I am interested in creating.
